Wes’s L5: What Happened Next

Wes’s L5: What Happened Next

THE GUITAR OF THE YEAR IS NOW ON SALE FOR $135,000:
83-7885 Gibson 1963 L-5C (single humbucking pickup) which was owned and used professionally by Wes Montgomery himself, #62876, with newer Gibson brown reissue style hard shell case.

On a scorching day, here’s a scintillating story.

As reported in the News Flash No.30 (September 1, 2001 issue) “Wes’s L5: What Happened Next,” Wes’s beloved Gibson L5C, famously known as the custom-made Heart L5, underwent a mystery after his death. It’s still unclear who took it and why it ended up in a fire.

Speculating too much might only cause unnecessary trouble, so let’s leave it as a legend for now.

Now, regarding the Heart L5, in a previous article we mentioned, “The dreaded? (Beloved?) person who won the auction is reportedly a record producer and guitarist living in California. Who could it be?” The Vintage Shop Mandolin Brothers continues to advertise it for sale.

Q: Did the Heart L5 find a buyer as I heard? A: No, it didn’t.

Q: Wasn’t it priced at $200,000? A: It’s now been lowered to $135,000, but how about considering it for ownership by the Wes Fan Club? We’re open to negotiation for installment payments.

In this manner, even casual emails receive serious responses… Sorry about that.

$135,000, while slightly cheaper due to the strong yen, is still quite a hefty sum. If you happen to be someone with disposable income thinking of making a generous gesture, I’ll provide the contact details below.
