Like Yea (Composition by Wes Montgomery)
This Love Of Mine
According to information received from a Wes fan in Yokohama, “Like Yea” is a composition by Wes Montgomery. In the blog entry dated January 21, 2001, titled “Wes’s music Wes Never Played,” it was noted that Wes’s brother Monk recorded a song with the Jazz Crusaders that Wes himself didn’t perform—more precisely, didn’t record. This time, Mel has similarly included it in his recordings.
The collaborating guitarist, Peter Bernstein, started playing piano at the age of eight. He developed an interest in Jimi Hendrix at twelve, became fascinated with B.B. King’s blues, and was eventually drawn to jazz by several recordings of Wes Montgomery. His articulation, much like that of G. Green, produces a distinct and clear sound.
