LABEL STUDY

LABEL STUDY

When it comes to Wes Montgomery’s prominent labels, they include Decca, World Pacific, Riverside, Verve, and A&M. These labels have been succeeded through various changes such as bankruptcies and acquisitions over the years. However, a minor yet highly interesting aspect is how changes in the center labels of records, along with the jackets, can reflect the era of production. This has become a collector’s item, with distinctions made between original and second issues. I would like to introduce these various changes for reference.

The research data for each label is available in PDF format.

labels are described as follows regarding grooves. Details are elaborated in the Verve Records research section:

【D (Linear Mark)】: Refers to a clear line with a diameter of 70mm.

【A (Grooved)】: Refers to a groove with a diameter of 70mm. While there may be variations in depth and width, it is distinctly identifiable.

【B (No Groove)】: Refers to a thin, linear mark with a diameter of 30mm.

【C (Shallow Groove)】: Refers to a groove with a diameter of 70mm, with a narrower width but still identifiable.
